DIY Pumpkin Jars

Dress up inexpensive Mason jars for fall with paint and twigs from the yard to make these DIY pumpkin jars.

DIY Pumpkin Jars
Pumpkins are definitely my go-to accessory for fall decorating.

In fact, they are just about the only decor I use!

I have collected them in all shapes and sizes, and in all different types of media.

I also love to come up with ideas to create them from scratch for some unique home decor!

There have been a lot of cute painted Mason jar vases around the blogosphere.

I thought an orange one with a green lid would make for an adorable pumpkin!

Let me show you how I made my DIY pumpkin jars.

DIY Pumpkin Jars - glass paint
DIY Pumpkin Jars: Paint

I found this paint at Hobby Lobby next to their glass section.

It wasn’t expensive so I thought I would give it a try since it says its specifically for painting glass.

Multi-surface paint (affiliate link) is another great paint for glass.

I applied 2-3 coats of paint (until I had the coverage I wanted) allowing each coat to dry before moving on to the next.

After the paint was completely dry, I lightly sanded the jar with a metal file.

I focused mainly on the raised images on the jar so they would show through.

DIY Pumpkin Jars
Paint the lids green – my favorite shade of green is Krylon’s Seaweed.

I also used it last month on my jack-o-lantern treat jars.

Rummage around the yard for a fairly thick stick on the ground.

Cut the stick into three pieces leaving the bottom flat and angling the top.

Give the pieces a good sanding to smooth the edges and get the dirt off.

Then bake the sticks in oven at 200 degrees for 2 hours to kill any bugs or parasites that might be in the wood.

I hot glued the sticks to the lids to act as the pumpkin stems.

Use raffia to tie a knot around the base of the stems.

It covers up any imperfections where the stem meets the lid.

DIY Pumpkin Jars
Aren’t these DIY pumpkin jars fun?

I love the rustic look they have.

And now I have more pumpkins to use in my fall decor!

I think a snowman Mason jar may be in order next.
