As parents, we try to encourage our children to make healthy choices when it comes to their diet. The problem is kids tend to be pretty picky eaters. Kids will turn their noses up at certain foods because of the way they look, because “so and so” doesn’t like it, or just because they’ve never tried it before. So you ALSO know that sometimes you just have sneak some foods into their diet.
I tend to use smoothies as my means of adding “undesirable” healthy foods to my kids’ diets. No matter what other ingredients I include in my smoothies I always use Silk Almondmilk for a sweet and creamy base. It’s a healthy choice as well since it contains no cholesterol and 50% more calcium, less fat, and fewer calories than dairy milk.
We are big Silk Almondmilk fans. We use it on cereal and oatmeal daily. And we’re not a dairy free or gluten free household by any means. We just love the way it tastes! Typically I buy the Silk Almondmilk in vanilla, but recently I tried the new Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber (also in vanilla flavor). The idea of adding extra protein and fiber to my children’s diets (and my own for that matter!) so easily sounded like a winner to me!
I have one little boy who turns his nose up a blueberries and another who won’t go near spinach. But I have an awesome green smoothie recipe that includes both of these and my kids love it! This green smoothie is perfect for kids 1) because it doesn’t look green and 2) it’s sweet and creamy thanks to the Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber.
As a parent, you will love this recipe for the vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients you are putting into your children’s tummies. There is no need for extra artificial sweeteners; the fruits and Almondmilk are sweet enough.
The trick to this particular smoothie is the strawberries and bananas. The strawberries give the smoothie a great coloring and overpower the green from the spinach. The banana masks all other flavors except for the strawberries leaving you with a delicious strawberry-banana flavored smoothie.
BEST Green Smoothie for Kids
Kids will LOVE this green smoothie that isn't green in color!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 2 cups strawberries, stems removed
- 1 banana, cut in pieces
- 1-2 cups spinach
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 cup Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high for 2 minutes.
- Serve immediately
After my kids express their love for this smoothie, I always remind them what is in it. I want them to know that those foods they claimed not to like can be pretty delicious. They are always amazed and happy with their healthy choices!
And I am loving the fact that this new Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber tastes just like our favorite vanilla Silk Almondmilk and has that extra boost of protein and fiber, both things that can be difficult to get a child to eat.
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Silk. The opinions and text are all mine.
