This DIY floral acrylic monogram perfect for brightening up any home decor space.
I have a SUPER fun new piece of decor for my living room. And I was able to make it in just 10 minutes!
Have you seen the fabulous acrylic letters at Michaels stores? They have various sizes; this is one of the larger ones. When I saw them I just knew my monogram-loving heart couldn’t pass one up! They are so pretty on their own, but add some scrapbook paper to the back and… wowza!!
I know you probably don’t really need a tutorial for this but, just in case, I’m sharing one anyway.
The hardest part of this project? Picking out the scrapbook paper to you! I’m a major paper hoarder so I had a LOT to choose from. You can see on Instagram my other possible choices. I loved the idea of using multiple papers for the background as suggested by some, but ultimately went with this pretty floral paper from My Mind’s Eye.
Start by tracing the edge of the monogram on the scrapbook paper. I used a mechanical pencil so I could click out a ton of lead to get in those tiny crevasses to trace. Carefully cut out the paper.
Wipe the back of the monogram really well to remove any debris and/or fingerprints. Apply a thin coat of decoupage.
Immediately place the paper monogram face down on the decoupage. Press down firmly, focusing on the edges.
Odds are not everything is going to line up exactly right. You’ll probably have a little bit of overlap from the paper.
If this were true paper crafting you would probably sand off that excess paper for a nice, smooth finish. But we can’t do that with the acrylic! It will leave nasty scratch marks. Instead, trim off the excess paper with an X-acto knife.
The acrylic monogram is pretty thick so it does amazing things to trick the eye once the paper is behind it.
This is going to look fabulous paired with all the flower stems I purchased over the weekend! I can’t wait to finish putting my spring mantel together, and you can bet this floral monogram will be front and center!

I haven't seen the acrylic ones, only that sort of papery cardboard type material. Will keep my eye out next time I'm in Micheal's. And great tip about the mechanical pencil. Thanks for linking up at #SaucySaturdays.
