We don’t really decorate for Valentine’s Day around my house.
But I did finally break down and make something fun for the front door!
And I’m thinking with my nontraditional color scheme I might be able to leave this bad boy up until at least the end of February. After that I can put up the yarn wreath I made last year!
I started with this $1 wood frame from Michael’s.
I knew I wanted to do something with dimension, so I made a “poofy” heart to put in the middle of the frame.
And here’s how I did it…
1. I started with a damask fabric remnant I had in my stash, the cardboard heart that came with the frame, and a couple of plastic grocery bags.
2. Spread some Beacon’s 3-in-1 all over the cardboard heart.
3. Stick one of the wadded up plastic bags on one half of the heart and the other wadded up bag on the other half of the heart.
4. Turn your fabric upside down and place the cardboard heart with the plastic bags glued on upside down on top of the fabric.
5-7. Slowly gather the fabric around the back of the heart and glue it into place.
Put the heart into the frame and push down the tabs (see arrow) to keep it in place.
When you turn the frame back over, you should have a nice puffy heart staring up at you!
Did I mention that before all of this I painted about 5 coats of Metallic Champagne acryllic paint on the front of the frame? I actually had it on hand already, and it matches the fabric to a T!
I decided the heart still need a little something so I framed it with some trim I had bought at a scrapbook convention last year.
It still needed something… So I found my stash of foam letters and added “welcome” to the bottom of the frame.
Also in my stash-o-crafts was a strip of fabric that just happened to have a similar damask pattern as the fabric on the heart so I thought it would be perfect to use for hanging the frame.
I glued the fabric to the back of the frame.
To spice it up a little more, I added a splash of red with a button and some ribbon.
(This same ribbon is also glued around the outside edges of the frame.)
And so it hangs on the front door!
I had to show off the 3D effect. I love it!
I also had to whip up some Valentine Day cards for my son’s daycare class. I saw this fun idea for cards at Eighteen25. Apparently they were all the rage in blogland last year! So I’m a little late to the party.
This is my son’s first time to have a Valentine’s Day party at daycare so I thought they would be super fun!
So now I’m about Valentined out. lol! I have to make some cookies for his class next weekend, so for now I’m taking a break from the big heart day. 🙂

I really like this!! I love how you didn't necessarily know how it was going to turn out, but you just added what it needed along the way 'til it looked right! That is my kind of craft.
