Keepsake Thumbprint Bookmark

diy keepsake thumbprint bookmarks
I have a fun kid-involved project for you today that would be great gift for grandparents or cousins.
You could even have your child pass them out to their friends for Valentine’s Day!
Today we’re making keepsake thumbprint bookmarks!

thumbprint bird supplies
The first thing you will need for this project is a copy of my printable Little Birdie bookmarks.
Save the file to your computer, print it out, and cut out the bookmarks.

You will also need some ink and markers. And a wet wipe would be handy, too.

To make the birds, first place your child’s pointer finger in the ink then situate it horizontally over the branch on the bookmark. Place the tip of your child’s pinky finger in the ink then place it in the upper left corner of the first fingerprint to create the bird’s head.

Go back with the markers to create an eye, beak, and legs for the bird.

My son also insisted our birds have tails. If you have markers the same colors as the birds you create then this is an easy add on. Continue on with each of the bookmarks.

laminate bookmarks
It is difficult to tell from these pictures, but I laminated the bookmarks to prevent smudging and to help the bookmarks last longer. You will also want to punch holes in the tops of the bookmarks (see the arrow) so that you can add decorative ribbon.

These would make super sweet Valentines for reading-age children and even for grandparents and cousins. And, as always, my boys are always thrilled when they get to be involved in mommy’s crafting. Its a win all around!
