Glow in the Dark Bat Bib Necklace

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. Lately I’ve not just been wanting to decorate my home but myself as well with some fun Halloween jewelry! When I received a box full of Tulip glow paint, I knew the perfect opportunity had arisen to make something unique and fun for nighttime.

This Glow in the Dark Bat Bib Necklace was so easy to create! And, minus drying time, doesn’t take very long to make either.

Tulip has some really fun Glow-in-the-Dark and Black Light Fabric Paints available. These are perfect for Halloween decor and costumes! The color paints will make your projects stand out during the day and at night… they’ll be spectacular! The paints work on fabric, foam, wood, glass, and metal – so just about any surface you can think of.

And speaking of glow, these Tulip Fabric Paints also look amazing under a black light. And not just the Black Light paints! The Glow-in-the-Dark paints will be bright under black light as well. Perfect for Halloween black light parties!

As with their other paints, Tulip Fabric Paints are nontoxic and formulated for lasting adhesion to fabric, making it fine to wash repeatedly with no cracking or peeling of the paint.

Let’s get to the tutorial!

I stumbled upon this lace spiderweb fabric remnant last year near Halloween and grabbed it up knowing I would use it in the future. I love all of the little bats on it!

Place wax paper under the area of the lace you plan to paint. I weighed down the fabric with washers so it wouldn’t move while I work.

You can either use a template to draw the bat or attempt freehand. I prefer symmetry and my freehand isn’t all that great. I use a bat from the bat template I shared last week. Just blow it up to a suitable size and print it out. I made the wing span ~5 1/2″. I placed the template so that it covered one of the little bats on the lace. I want to use it in the necklace design.

Use your glow paint color of choice (I used Natural) to outline the bat.

Carefully remove the template then go back and trace the spiderweb lines and the outline of the small bat on the lace.

Now comes the hard part… waiting for the paint to dry! Give it a good 4-5 hours to completely dry.

It’s a perfect time to finish that load of laundry you’ve been fluffing for a couple of days (ahem!).

Once the paint is dry, use sharp scissors to cut out the bat shape.

Use a clear glue to adhere ribbon to the edges of the wings to make a necklace.

It makes for a pretty cute necklace during the day! And after a minute under the black light, it glows super bright in the dark! This is definitely fun for a party or even to wear while taking my boys trick or treating. And it matches pretty well with Bat Bangle Bracelet I made last year!
