These DIY paper tulip pencil toppers are a cute little gift for teachers or moms!
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! The staff at our school have been working hard to make sure our teachers will feel appreciated by sending out a list of fun things for us to do for our teachers each day of the week. Day 1 was to bring in our teacher’s favorite flowers. Thanks to a helpful questionnaire that they filled out and send home, we know all the right things to send in!
Both of my sons’ teachers love tulips. It’s getting a little late to find them around here so I came up with these fun tulip pencil toppers instead. I’ve never met a teacher who doesn’t love a good office supply. And these tulips will last much longer than the real thing!
Cut strips of paper into 2″x6″ strips. Cut those strips every ~1 1/2″. You will need 5 pieces per tulip.
Wrap one of the rectangles of paper around the end of a pencil, gluing in place. Trim the top to look more like the center of a flower
Cut the remaining four rectangles into petal shapes and apply wet adhesive along the curve of the base of each petal.
Wrap 2 petals around the top of the pencil on opposite sides. Tilt the tops out slightly.
Wrap the remaining 2 petals adjacent to the other petals, again with the tops out slightly.
Wrap the base with a piece of washi tape to keep them in place while the glue dries. Wrap the washi tape with twine and glue down.
I found this cute Mason jar with a flower frog lid at Hobby Lobby. I added a few decorative rocks to the bottom then inserted the pencils.
These would also make a fun gift for Mother’s Day. The kiddos can definitely help out!
